[Ann] CintaNotes 1.7.2 Beta 1 & 2

Postby CintaNotes Developer » Wed Sep 05, 2012 5:31 pm

Good news everyone! :)
A new beta is ready.
Most likely it will be released later as 1.8, but for now let's call it 1.7.2 Beta 1, hope you don't mind ;)

Here is the list of changes:

Enhancements:
  • Support working with read-only databases
  • Editor: Added F5 shortcut to insert current timestamp
  • Display fonts preview in the Note Appearance dialog
  • Improved tag auto suggestion
  • "Paste" context menu item in search filter box
  • Double click on a tag in any tag edit field selects the whole tag
  • Note Properties dialog enhancements (default focus on Created Date, no more on-the-fly date validation)
  • Enhanced system window menu (right-click on app title icon)

Fixes:
  • Note preview: wrong line breaks for mixed monospace and normal lines
  • F3 behaved differently in the note list compared to the note editor.
  • Note properties dialog: created date was not saved for new notes
  • Exception on searching for " /" or "//"
  • Strange selected notes after removing tag
  • Wrong URL highlighting when using german umlauts
  • Various window focusing issues
  • Certain text was disappearing from note preview
  • Key shortcuts in popup menu were not properly aligned
  • Crash on search with 0 results + Down Arrow + Alt+Enter
  • "@cintanotes" was not found when searching for "cinta" (with search inside words off)
  • Hugely degraded performance on bases with lots of deeply nested tags

Thanks in advance for checking it out!
BTW soon there will be another beta with - at last - proper paragraph formatting support, aimed to resolve many text formatting issues currently on the roadmap.

Here's a temp key to test with all the commercial features:

Hooray! Those two are a big time saver for me :D

CintaNotes Developer wrote:[*]Support working with read-only databases
Is there a CN option to set a database 'read-only' or is it simply possible for CN to open those databases?

Thanks - can't wait to test it.

Hi Alex,

great to see development is making progress again :)

Date-edit-dialog
  • the dialog is much improved now :)
  • creation date has now the focus :)
  • arrow right/left moves between day/month/year etc. :)
  • creation date saved on insert
  • validation modification before creation :)
    Two issues open:
  • validation modification date before today is missing
  • arrow up/down inc/dec's, but also moves (auto) forward, this is not wanted

Editor: Added F5 shortcut to insert current timestamp
  • great little feature
  • the item is missing in the context menu
  • remark: is available in the notes editor only, not the title
One issue open:
  • F5 is missing in the help file

Confirmed fixes
  • F3 now finds all searched words in the notes editor :)
  • Wrong URL highlighting when using german umlauts
  • Help was corrected for global shortcut create new note

What is this?
  • Improved tag auto suggestion -> What's the difference?
  • "Paste" context menu item in search filter box -> nice it's there, but looks incomplete
  • Double click on a tag in any tag edit field selects the whole tag -> What's the difference?
  • Enhanced system window menu (right-click on app title icon) -> Can't see any difference?

I think ...
- improved tag auto suggestion -> the following issue seems to be solved
http://roadmap.cintanotes.com/topic/117 ... uggestion/
- double click on a tag selects the whole tag -> not only a word (e.g. if you have tags containing special characters)

I think I found something regarding the "Improved tag auto suggestion"

I have the following tags (sorry for the German words (offen=open, klären=clarify)):

:[TASK]/()offen/(?)klären
:[TASK]/()offen/(?)klären/name1
:[TASK]/()offen/(?)klären/name2
:[TASK]/()offen/(?)klären/name3

If I type "klär" into the search field --> all those tags are auto suggested.
If I type "?" into the search field --> only the parent ":[TASK]/()offen/(?)klären" gets suggested.

A second minor thing I noticed:
If I type "[" into the search field --> the auto suggestion works as expected.
If I type "]" into the search field --> I don't get a suggestion.
//this is not a big problem for me but strange because it is working with "(" and ")"

Apart from that, it seems to work pretty well :)

Thank's Chris, so this is about special characters only. I don't use them, that's probably why i was not able to notice the change :)

Yes both of them are special character related - and I use them excessively ;)
The only thing you could - but hopefully don't - notice is, that there is the possiblity for a bug because the implementation of the logic changed.

Guys,
I've just found a huge regression: the Untagged view is not working.
Sorry for that, will be fixed in the next beta!

I sure had this discovered myself in the next couple of hours, for the untagged view is a constant companion to me. Is there a workaround? Neither Ctrl+U nor a click on "untagged" will bring them up?

Nope there's unfortunately no workaround. I'll publish a fix (Beta 2) today or tomorrow.

CintaNotes Developer wrote:

Seems to work much better.
Now it behaves like this:
  • If one or more notes are selected (and an active filter reduces the list of notes) and you change the tags of the selected notes so that they don't meet the filter criteria any more...
  • then the next note that meets the filter criteria gets selected
  • OR - if no 'next note' exists (because the last note has been selected) - then NO note gets selected.

This is much better. In the latter case it would imho be even better to select the last note in the list (not none).

Hi Thomas,

Thomas Lohrum wrote:great to see development is making progress again :)

Great to be making this progress ;)

Thomas Lohrum wrote:validation modification date before today is missing

I reckon this is really not that necessary, sometimes it can be handy to define modification date in future
to have some notes always come first when sorting by this date.

Thomas Lohrum wrote:arrow up/down inc/dec's, but also moves (auto) forward, this is not wanted

Will be fixed, thanks!

Thomas Lohrum wrote:the item is missing in the context menu

Will do)

Thomas Lohrum wrote:remark: is available in the notes editor only, not the title

Is it needed in the title as well?

Thomas Lohrum wrote:F5 is missing in the help file

Yes, I usually only update help before the release.

Thomas Lohrum wrote:Improved tag auto suggestion -> What's the difference?

Chris has already explained)

Thomas Lohrum wrote:"Paste" context menu item in search filter box -> nice it's there, but looks incomplete

Incomplete because "Copy" and "Cut" are missing, or is it something else?

Thomas Lohrum wrote:Double click on a tag in any tag edit field selects the whole tag -> What's the difference?

Chris covered that)

Thomas Lohrum wrote:Enhanced system window menu (right-click on app title icon) -> Can't see any difference?

There's new 'Window' submenu with command from "Options/Window". In the next beta where will be no submenu, just the command listed directly.

I completely agree. Especially since pressing Alt+Enter while no notes are selected leads to a crash)

OK here goes Beta 2, as promised, with the Untagged view fix! :)

Some other changes (to Beta 1) are included as well:

Enhancements:
  • "Expand All/Collapse All" context menu commands in the Tag Sidebar
  • Relevant tag marks are now affected also by the text search filter
  • Enhanced system window menu (window options are now listed without "Window" submenu)

Fixes:
  • Regression: Untagged view doesn't show any notes
  • Was not possible to add multiple non-autodeleted tags through the New Tag dialog
  • Unnecessary tags present in exported XML
  • On Ctrl+BkSp only first tag was expanded in the Tag Sidebar tree
  • Buttons in notebook message dialog were too narrow for some languages

Found a strange thing regarding the "Relevant tag marks are now affected also by the text search filter":
If I activate 'Display Only Related Tags' and type a word into the search field that does not exist > the tag list shows ALL tags in a flat way.

to confirm, it is not fixed in Beta 2; still open.

Not sure, but it appeared incomplete to me. It doesn't hurt to have it there as well, right?

Yes, because Copy/Cut/Delete is missing.

Thomas

PS: I confirm the untagged view regression is fixed.

I confirm and agree that this is strange. BTW what would you expect to see? Since no notes are displayed no tags should be visible actually, but this is somehow also wrong.

Ok F5 will also work in the title, not much effort required here)
